Significance of Umrah in the month of Ramadan

Umrah is known as a lesser pilgrimage than Hajj, but due to its religious importance and significance, several Muslims from all around the world visit the House of Allah to perform it. Ramadan being the holiest month in the Islamic calendar offers a greater blessing to Umrah when performed during this holy month.

Performance of any good deed during the month of Ramadan, its reward is multiplied by seventy times. There are abundant blessings and benefits of performing Umrah in Ramadan.

Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated, “When the Prophet (PBUH) returned after performing Hajj, he asked Umm Sinaan Al-Ansaariyyah,“ Why did you not perform Hajj?” She replied, ‘The father of so-and-so [i.e., her husband] had two camels and he went on pilgrimage on one of them, and the second is used for the irrigation of our land.’ The Prophet (PBUH) said [to her]:‘An ‘Umrah in Ramadan is similar to Hajj with me [in terms of reward].’” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Another narration goes this way - Prophet SAW said (to her): “If Ramadan arrives, perform Umrah as [the reward for] it is equivalent to Hajj”.

Here are some of the benefits of performing Umrah in the month of Ramadan in the light of authentic Hadiths:

Concerning the worth of the Ramadan, Umrah in Ramadan equals with Hajj with abundant blessings.

Ramadan is a month, which increases the reward of a single act to seventy times. If a Muslim fulfils one requirement, then he/she will be rewarded seventy times of the actual deed.

A person’s focus remains in worship and forgiveness. Such an act is revealed during the journey.

It is an astonishing sight to encounter thousands of Muslims from every corner of the world and see the treasured guests of Allah together breaking their fast. Being together is a blessing during the sacred month of Ramadan.
Performing Umrah during Ramadan not only brings spiritual and mental relief but also brings greater reward in terms of blessings and acceptance by Allah.
One becomes a guest of Allah. The Holy Prophet (SAW) stated, “The guests of Allah are three: The Ghazi (i.e. the warrior who fights in Jihad), the Haji (i.e. the pilgrim who performs Hajj) and the Mu’tamir (i.e. the pilgrim performing Umrah).” – Hadith No. 2626, Book of The Rites of Hajj, Sunan An-Nasa’i, Vol. 3.
Along with its many rewards, the Umrah comes with another unexpected reward, which is the elimination of poverty.

On the authority of ‘Abdullaah ibn Mas‘ood, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah,(PBUH) said: "Perform Hajj and ‘Umrah repeatedly, for they remove poverty and sins in the same way as bellows removes the impurities of iron, gold, and silver.” [Ahmad and others]

With the arrival of travellers wishing to perform Umrah, the population of Makkah and Madinah increases immensely, and a sense of joy and unity is felt all over. There is a festive feeling during Ramadan and the residents of the holy cities take great pride in their hospitality towards the pilgrims. They volunteer in helping and hosting pilgrims, deliver food at Mosques for fasting people, offer good wishes and overall make pilgrims feel very welcomed.

To experience such joy and unity and more importantly to seek the blessings of performing Umrah in the holy month of Ramadan, plan and customize your tour and select from a range of individual, group and family Umrah packages. Travelling to Makkah and Madinah for Umrah in the month of Ramadan is truly an enriching experience and a blessing for every Muslim.
